Welcome to Bucharest!
We prepared for you a visit to the Palace of the Parliament, the second largest building in the world after Pentagon with a construction cost of $1.5 billion during the `80s. Or you can just walk in the old center where your hotel is located, taste Romanian wine and feel the spirit of the people and the city!
Today we will start our journey to the Carpathian Mountains! We have chosen for you a perfect motorcycle ride through the small villages in Romania where you can admire the architecture of the houses and see how the Romanian people live! We start the day by a 1h drive on highway so you accommodate with the bike, just before we start our ascent to the hilly area before the mountains. At Horezu, a Unesco World Site, you will discover a unique pottery style and observe the locals as they produce and paint the objects. Next, we visit Romania’s narrowest limestone canyon on Bistrita river and explore The Bat’s Cave, where we will see a hidden church built inside the cave. We spend the night in a traditional village in the middle of the mountains where we can enjoy the local food and drinks.
We invite you in the morning to visit one of the most beautiful and famous caves in Romania, the Women Cave, which contains plenty of ancient bear fossils and strange rock shapes and each one has its own legend. After the cold air we will ride our bikes towards the Valea Cernei National Park, a perfect road for motorcycle riding! We will enjoy lunch in a small town right in front of the famous Constantin Brancusi sculpture where you can admire some of the artists’ most famous works: the Endless Column, the Gate of the Kiss and the Table of Silence.
Next stop is at a 650 years old monastery, which due to its location in the mountains has a great significance in Romanian history. During World War II, the national gold reserve of ~200 tons of gold was hidden here.
Another amazing highlight on our way today is an old resort, a thermal water resort known from Roman times when even the emperors came to benefit from it. The resort is surrounded by the mountains, a perfect place where we can have a break.
We will spend the night in a spectacular place where we can swim and enjoy the amazing view of the mountains!
We begin our day at a viewpoint over the Danube to hear about the fascinating secret story of the Ada Kaleh lost island with its rare collection of local gem stones and artifacts. The Iron Gate dam & power plant is the biggest of its kind on the Danube.
After we cross the Danube on the Iron Gate dam (which is build very close to the initial location of the bridge built by emperor Traian 2000 years ago), the road will take us along the Danube canyon, offering great scenic views of the river and gorge. A short stop to learn of king Decebal’s legend while we admire his 55m face statue carved on a Danube cliff. At Lepenski Vir archeological site, we will explore a prehistoric site from 7000 BC placed in a very modern architecture museum and learn of the community’s daily life and rituals.
As we leave Danube canyon, we enter Serbia’s rural area and the road takes us through small picturesque villages where you can observe the daily life and customs. We arrive in Belgrade late afternoon and after refreshing up at our hotel we are just in time to visit the amazing Kalemegdan fortress at sunset.
Our first highlight today is the 600 year old Smederevo fortress which has been completely restored and offers amazing views. We continue to the largest desert in Europe; it is a desert unlike any other: home to a large population of wild wolves, its dunes have been gradually covered by grass, so expect a memorable experience in a surreal landscape.
Next, we will drive through one of the most beautiful gorges in Romania on the Nera river. The road turns and shifts along the narrow river, through dense green forest, offering pure driving pleasure and adrenaline. At the end of the gorge, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world await for us!
This is the last day, and to fill any riding desire that was left unsatisfied, this is going to be the longest distance we’ve covered in one day.
We will explore Strehaia and nearby villages to immerse in local Roma/gipsy culture, learning about the traditional houses and correspondence between architecture and wealth & status.
Depending on departure time, you may enjoy today a walk in the historical city center or just take a ride with the tourist bus that guides you to the most important highlights in Bucharest.
Farewell! See you next time!
